Two Strong Team face
The India cricket team are currently touring Sri Lanka between July and September 2017 to play three Test matches, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20 International match.[1][2][3] Ahead of the Test series, the teams played a two-day warm-up match in Colombo.[4][5][6]
Dinesh Chandimal was appointed the new Test captain of Sri Lanka following Sri Lanka's ODI defeat to Zimbabwe earlier in the month.[7] However, before the first Test, Chandimal contracted pneumonia, ruling him out of the match.[8] Rangana Herath was later confirmed as captain of the side for the first Test
167 runs in the session, just under six an over. Sri Lanka did manage to get rid of Dhawan just before the end, but boy, didn't he run roughshod all over them. The bowling was smashed around the park with no exceptions, as Dhawan hurtled through the gears after getting to his hundred, not that he was going much slower before. He missed out on a double-hundred, but has launched India into a really dominant position. Pujara has gone under the radar, even though he's been very fluent in his half-century. With the pitch not offering much at all, and the rate India are going at, nothing seems too far-fetched from here as far as the first innings total goes. But Sri Lanka could hope to control the game a lot better after tea. Join us back soon.
Gunaratne ruled out of Galle Test with fractured left thumb
Suffered a huge blow in the first Test against India in Galle on Wednesday (July 26) as middle-order batsman Asela Gunaratne was ruled out of the game with a fractured left thumb, and there are doubts if he can take further part in the three-match Test series. The all-rounder has been rushed to Colombo for a surgery, Sri Lanka's Chairman of Selectors Sanath Jayasuriya told Cricbuzz.
Gunaratne, fielding at second slip hurt his thumb, while attempting a catch of Shikhar Dhawan off the bowling of Lahiru Kumara. Dhawan was on 31 when the catch was put down before he went on to register a fine century on the opening day.
Gunaratne's injury comes across as a huge dent to Sri Lanka's already depleted
